Letters to the Editor

Way too good to pass up. So, here’s the letter by Godfrey Tudor-Matthews, Eureka printed in the Sunday, November 23, 2008 issue: Differentiation between distinction and discrimination.

Vive la difference. Opponents of Proposition 8 seem somewhat myopic in their failure to make an appropriate (and I should like to stress the word appropriate) differentiation between distinction and discrimination.

As an employer, if I refuse to hire a secretary or other employee for any reason other than qualification, I could be accused, and all things being equal possibly rightly so, of discrimination. If, on the other hand, I provide two toilets: one for male, the other for female employees, and label the outside of the two doors accordingly, am I being discriminatory? The answer, of course, is “yes”; but I am recognizing the different needs of the two sexes and making a distinction between them.

If we understand the purpose for the establishment of marriage to be primarily that of procreation and the establishment of a stable, protective environment for the offspring, it becomes obvious that “same sex marriage” is a contradiction in terms. It is verbal camouflage.

That the law should provide a means for two people who love each and desire to live together, to co-mingle their assets and enjoy the privileges of a legal partnership is indisputable. But it should not be called a “marriage,” neither should the rites of marriage be performed over nor conferred upon what would thus be basically a legal contractual agreement.

Offspring are not entailed in such an arrangement, thus there are no requirements for assumption of joint names for the establishment of a family tree and its concomitant hereditaments.

Probate Judge Margaret Noe opted to sentence Adkins as an adult. She could have placed her in a juvenile facility until age 21 and then evaluated whether prison should be appropriate, court administrator David Stanifer said.

What do you expect from a female judge? This judge “opted to sentence … as an adult? 13 years old? This is criminal insanity, pure and simple. The people of Lenawee County that allow for this kind of judiciary have a lot to answer for.

If It’s Not Broken, Don’t Fix It

Corruption breeds corruption, or a Jesus Christ once said, a rotten tree produces rotten fruit. It’s as simple as that. So why would anyone expect the presidential and other up-coming governmental elections to produce a legitimate or legal government? The Republican success, with gutless complicity by everyone else, since 2000 is already legendary. So when you hear of voter suppression, caging, intimidation and mischief by law, Joe asks, does anyone try to do something about these assaults on the voting public and their legal rights by thugs and criminals reminiscent of Nazi Germany ?

One of the first observations on the Joe Blow Report was, What Makes a Blueprint for Peace?dealing with a blog article by Dave Berman, a local blogger at:  We Do Not Consent— The blog, the book, the birth of peaceful revolution for conscientious objectors everywhere… Here, Mr. Berman’s primary concern was legitimate government, legal elections with accurate vote count and his struggle to produce or effect same. So, Joe decided to see what “We Do Not Consent” had to say lately. Interestingly, he as some pertinent comments on his latest posting. Take a look.

Joe was pleased to see how Mr. Berman is evolving to a more realistic point of understanding. Perhaps he’ll conclude at some later date that there are more than “one” way to protest a fraudulent election, which he says is guaranteed.

The primary purpose of this blog-site is to deal with local issues as reflected through local bloggers perspectives. However, this issue, Subterfuge and Pretext, touches upon a couple of local happenings.

Mahmoud-al-ZaharThe Hamas rulers of Gaza Strip on Tuesday lashed out at gunners who fire rockets at Israel from the Palestinian territory in violation of a seven-week-old calm, calling them Israeli collaborators. “About the rocket-firing, I think those who are responsible are those who collaborate with Israel because there is a consensus by all Palestinian groups to respect the truce,” said Dr. Mahmud Zahar, a senior leader of the Hamas movement.

On Monday, a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed in an empty field outside the southern Israeli city of Sderot, causing no casualty or damage.

According to AFP, Zahar told a Gaza radio station that the party which fired the rocket was “linked to Israel as they provide a pretext to exercise pressure on the Palestinian people.

Garbage In – Garbage Out

The Essence of Corruption:

‘not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime.’

Source: Mukasey Refuses To Prosecute Officials Who Politicized DOJ: ‘Negative Publicity’ Is Sufficient Punishment

Where does this kind of Crap (Attorney General Michael Mukasey) come from?

This is what grows in Southern Humboldt County, California at Ernie’s Place:  “I have never ratted on anyone, and I never intend to, having said that you will probably say that I am the problem. … I have friends that I’m sure grow minor amounts. I feel that it is okay to be friends with growers. My rule is I don’t want to know about it. If I don’t rat on people, but I don’t have to feel bad when they get busted.”

The War on Drugs is a money-maker for Ernie and  all of his self-describe amoral friends:  “The price of marijuana would drop from thousands of dollars a pound to the price of a pack of cigarettes. The money that moves to and from Humboldt county would stop. The economy would stop, and many, many innocent people would be hurt.”

The Big Lie: “I have gotten along quite nicely, and have become a fast and trusted friend to many of the growers and indeed we have a lot in common, trying to survive and all.” Garbage in, garbage out!

As you can see, there are no “innocent people” in a Democracy. Which is exactly what everyone finds out when the chickens come home to roost.
